The Brentford and England forward, Ivan Toney, is currently the subject of a probe by the Football Association (FA) concerning potential wagering on football games. The inquiry has been in progress for seven months, and although no formal accusations have been made against Toney, the purported actions are thought to have occurred prior to his tenure at Brentford. There are no indications that any of the alleged bets involved fixtures in which Brentford participated.
Toney, via a statement on Twitter, confirmed the investigation, stating that he is fully cooperating with the FA and will refrain from further comment until the inquiry concludes. He also expressed that representing England in the World Cup has always been a lifelong aspiration.
Toney was named to Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad but did not see action in the Nations League matches versus Italy or Germany. Southgate is scheduled to reveal his final 26-man World Cup roster on November 10th.
The FA strictly forbids all players, managers, coaches, club personnel, directors, and licensed agents associated with the Premier League from engaging in any form of betting on football.
Anthonys privileges to wager on soccer games globally have been revoked. Brentford FC released a communication stating, “Allegations against Anthony and the current inquiry by the Football Association have come to our attention. At present, the Club will not be providing any additional remarks.”
